WE LAUNCHED!
(You can view the UNH press release by clicking on the image.)
Principal Investigator: Steve Powell (Cornell University)
The Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling (MICA) rocket, to be launched from the Poker Flat Research Range, will use a Terrier-Black Brant Mark 1 sounding rocket to deliver a scientific payload to an altitude of ~400 km in the neighborhood of an auroral arc. Through this mission, we hope to learn more about the role of active ionospheric feedback in the development of large-amplitude, small-scale electromagnetic waves, and density depletions, in the portion of the low-altitude auroral ionosphere containing the downward field-aligned current.
